Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS:
|
Wendy: “I purchased my Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS just
before Christmas last year after saying to my husband
one day, “wouldn’t it be cool if there was like a GPS
that you could wear on your wrist like a watch when
running instead of in the car?” and he said
sarcastically, “yeah, like the Garmin, duh?” – huh? I
had no idea! After checking out all the reviews I
decided to invest in the 305 with heart rate monitor.
Now I can’t imagine running without it! I love being
able to program the watch so that I can see what matters
most to me (time run, distance run, average pace, heart
rate) and seeing my exact distance is motivating and
helps keep me going. I highly recommend the 305 to
anyone”

Shoes:
The number one thing about shoes is getting properly
fit. Buying a good pair of running shoes is not
necessarily cheap but finding the right shoes will save
you money in the long run.
Wendy: “After years of buying shoes off the rack or
from the national chains with salespeople with little or
no knowledge of fitting, I finally went to a local mom &
pop store. At first I was apprehensive, I thought that
buying from a smaller locally owned store would cost a
lot more. Not only was a fitted with the best pair of
shoes I have ever worn (not one blister, not one day of
discomfort), but when I went home and compared prices
online I was surprised to find that I actually spent
less on my pair of shoes at the store than I found for
the same shoes online!”
It is also important to buy new shoes every 300-400
miles (depending on your running style, body weight, and
the surface on which you run)… your feet, legs, ankles
and knees will thank you for it. Let’s say you run 5
times a week @ 4 miles per run = 20 miles/week or 80
miles per month. That means you are due for new shoes
approximately every 4 months.
Signs that it’s time to replace your running shoes:
1. If you are feeling pain (muscle fatigue, shin
splints, pain in your joints such as your knees), you
may be wearing shoes that have lost their cushioning.
2. The soles are worn out.
3. The miles you have put onto your shoes exceed 300 –
400 miles. Even if you have taken good care of your
shoes and they look great – when hitting the 300 – 400
mile mark it’s time to replace your shoes to prevent
injury.
